It’s that time of year again, folks! We’re looking for bloggers to join the 2017 Spring/Summer You Matter Blogger Council. The deadline to apply is May 5th, 2017. We’ve extended the deadline to Friday, May 12th, 2017!

You Matter has always been a space for youth, by youth, to share stories and make your voices heard. If you’re between 13-24 and are passionate about suicide prevention and mental health, we want you to apply.

To apply, please answer the following questions in a word document and e-mail it to [email protected]. Make the subject line “You Matter Blogger Application.” You’ll also need to include a sample post of 300-500 words that shows off your voice and writing style.

  1. What is your name?
  2. What state are you from? If you’re currently living in another state for school, tell us that too. (As much as we love our international readers, since the Lifeline is funded by the U.S. government, we need our bloggers to live in the U.S.)
  3. How old are you?
  4. If you’re under 18, what’s your parent or guardians’ contact info?
  5. What’s your e-mail address and phone number?
  6. Why would you be a great You Matter blogger? Share with us your story.
  7. What topic(s) would you most like to write about on the blog?
  8. How did you hear about You Matter?
  9. Please submit a sample post of 300-500 words that shows off your voice and writing style.

My name is Connor, I am a 15 year old who lives in Washington, you know, that middle of nowhere state on the coast. I live online, and on Discord servers of a fairly large size, and i work with many others to talk people out of commiting suicide. one post i made read “I hate that everyone seems to think that pain and death are the only ways out. I want to help them, I really do, but I can’t help everyone, and that is a major source of my pain. if I could help everyone that needs help, I could be viewed as a hero, but I would refuse the title, because a human life is worth more than any amount of money, I would be happy knowing that I saved a life, and I could live happily, knowing that I’m keeping the world alive one person at a time. I wish I could fathom some of the pain here, the pain of breaking a heart, the pain of being cut, the pain of everything, because in the end, I could guide you through this pain, and I could fly forever, knowing that I saved a soul from being damned to hell, that one more person was happier because they felt welcome, or better about themself. I wish that all this pain would end, because in the end, everyone could finally feel true happiness.” to me, pain is a tool. it’s one i constantly draw on, and i use it to my advantage to show if i understand. I used to have suicidal thoughts, and some of my friends irl used to as well. some of my online friends still think it’s a way out, even though we all know otherwise. a human life is so precious, that losing one, to me, feels like I’ve lost a part of myself. I can be contacted via email at , though i will be keeping my phone number confidential, as the only phone i have is a house phone, and the same goes for my parents’ emails, as i doubt they are aware of You matter. I would mainly post anti-suicide messages, because i have never experienced losing someone to suicide, though one time, a friend came close, and i do know several people who lost a friend two years ago. I learned about You Matter via the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, as i wanted to learn how i could get more active in suicide prevention.

Thank you. Also to follow up, was that a confirmation you received my application? I received no reply so I was not sure you did.
