UPDATE: We’re extending the application deadline! You have an extra week to apply. Applications now close on September 9.

It’s that time of year again, folks! We’re looking for bloggers to join the 2016-2017 Fall/Winter You Matter Blogger Council. The deadline to apply is September 2 September 9.

You Matter has always been a space for youth, by youth, to share stories and make your voices heard. If you’re between 13-24 and are passionate about suicide prevention and mental health, we want you to apply.

To apply, please answer the following questions in a word document and e-mail it to [email protected]. Make the subject line “You Matter Blogger Application.” You’ll also need to include a sample post of 300-500 words that shows off your voice and writing style.

  1. What is your name?
  2. What state are you from? If you’re currently living in another state for school, tell us that too. (As much as we love our international readers, since the Lifeline is funded by the U.S. government, we need our bloggers to live in the U.S.)
  3. How old are you?
  4. If you’re under 18, what’s your parent or guardians’ contact info?
  5. What’s your e-mail address and phone number?
  6. Why would you be a great You Matter blogger? Share with us your story.
  7. What topic(s) would you most like to write about on the blog?
  8. How did you hear about You Matter?
  9. Please submit a sample post of 300-500 words that shows off your voice and writing style.

Suicide isn’t partial to age requirements….neither should those who wish to contribute as a blogger…..those of us who beyond your age requirement as a blogger, are quietly sitting on a bench on this pathway to help those who have stumbled or dragged their feet to reach an unknown destination…..compassion, understanding, the wisdom, the ones who extend themselves to catch those, should be your requirements…..the motto, “You Matter” is the reason I’m here….because depression doesn’t care how old you are….it grips the mind, tricks the vulnerable heart, and leaves no shelter to weather the storm….but when tattered heart sees a soul as a lighthouse, we become a beacon of hope in someone’s stormy life….we are their lighthouse….we have the chance to help others…..

Has the deadline passed? I have some things I’d really like to share from my journal, I’ve battled depression for quite a bit in my life now, since teenage. Can I still apply for blogging?

I just found your page and I see the deadline has passed. My 19 year old son is a victim of suicide. He passed on July 30th of this year. I loved him more than anything and our lives are shattered. If you are ever looking for people to tell there stories I would be glad to tell how great of a person Max was.
