The saying ‘you are what you eat’ may be true after all. Food is quite simply fuel for the body and without or too much of the wrong types of foods the body can begin to break down. Whether we like it or not, not all foods are created equally–while I’d love for my vegetables to taste like chocolate they don’t. Luckily, nature provides a variety of foods that are great fuel and proven to make you feel good no matter what your mood.

Chocolate

Who doesn’t like this deliciously sweet treat? Experts have found chocolate can reduce stress hormones and anxiety with just a 1.4 ounce serving, to get the most out this mood booster opt for a dark chocolate.

Peanut Butter

If you’re feeling cranky a PB&J sandwich may be in order! Peanut butter is a great snack when you have a craving for sweets but don’t want the dreaded sugar crash afterwards. This snack is also packed with healthy fats and protein, when paired with a bowl of apple slices it’s the perfect food for a post-lunch energy boost.

Salmon

Another great food for to help get you through the day is this fish that contains omega-3 fatty acids, studies have shown the nutrient aids in the prevention and treatment of clinical depression.

Eggs

Want to feel energized instead of empty? Try scrambled or hard boiled eggs. While doughnuts are a popular choice for breakfast they also contain higher levels of sugar and carbs that can leave you feeling sluggish after you’ve eaten them. Eggs on the other hand are filled with good carbs that increase the brains’ serotonin levels, also known as the ‘feel good’ hormone.
